Stretch Your Writing Muscles With UMSL's Poetry Workshop
Students of all levels will explore the art of poetry writing starting March 25
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Louis, MO--March 8, 2010--University of Missouri–St. Louis' Division of Continuing Education offers a Poetry Workshop from 6:00–8:00 p.m., Thursdays from March 25–May 20, 2010. Students of all levels will stretch their poetic muscles to try out a variety of materials, moods and structures.
The workshop will explore what it means to write intellectual poetry that can celebrate as well as mourn and be silly as well as serious. The class will examine the process of writing, what hinders writers and what pushes writers forward. Students will have the opportunity to receive feedback from the instructor and from other students. Writing exercises will be complemented by readings of exciting works by contemporary poets.
Students will learn from instructor Alison Carrick, who received her Master of Fine Arts from UMSL in 2007. She also has a Certificate in Creative Writing from Washington University, and was a participant in the Certificate for University Teaching Program (CUT) at UMSL. Carrick currently is a contributing editor for the literary magazine River Styx. She also has been published in Touchstone Magazine and has studied and written both fiction and poetry.
The workshop fee is $129, and the registration deadline is March 22. For more information or to register, please visit the Continuing Education’s online catalog or call (314) 516-6590.
